Overview

When long-term performance and speed of construction are critical, TensarTech®  ARES systems provide an attractive and reliable solution for  retaining wall and bridge abutments, saving time and money during installation.  The system is comprised of a pre-cast concrete modular panel facing, securely connected to Tensar uniaxial geogrids, which reinforce the soil behind to create a stable structure with up to 120-year design life. The modular panels offer designers a choice of textures and patterns to meet architectural, structural, and budgetary needs. Panels are cast with Tensar geogrid tabs embedded in the rear face for connection to Tensar uniaxial (RE) geogrids. The 100% polymer bodkin connection assures no loss in design strength over the project’s service life.

System Components

The TensarTech ARES® System includes advice, training and services from Tensar’s design and on-site teams, as well as three specific products.  These are Tensar uniaxial (RE) geogrids (high density polyethylene with extremely high durability and no corrosion potential), TensarTech ARES modular panel facing (high strength, durable factory produced pre-cast panel) and Tensar polymer bodkin connector – for high strength connection between blocks and geogrid reinforcement.

No Metal - No Corrosion

With soil reinforcement that is 100% polymeric, TensarTech®  ARES walls eliminate corrosion concerns related to either the reinforcing element or the connection of that element to the panel. These systems offer the cost advantages of a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall without the long-term consequences of exposure to chlorides, sulfates, low-resistivity soils, or stray electrical current potential. This makes TensarTech®  ARES walls the logical choice for aggressive backfill soils, transformer platform areas, and electrified rail projects.

Single-Source Solution

Unlike other panel walls, the components of the TensarTech® ARES systems have been specifically designed to work together for optimum efficiency and performance. DOTs, contractors, and engineers have long appreciated the many advantages of TensarTech® ARES MSE panel walls. Their wide range of designs and finishes, combined with their simplicity and speed of construction, make them more appealing when compared to other types of wall systems.

No Fuss - No Risk Construction – Straightforward and Fast

Contractors appreciate the constructability of TensarTech ARES systems. The modular panelare designed to interlock to aid alignment No external propping or formwork is needed and connection of face panels to the geogrid reinforcement is simple and quick using a polymer bodkin to link the cast in geogrid tabs. The rest is straightforward earthworks. Typically, no structural foundation is necessary, mobilisation costs are minimal and staged construction is easily accommodated. Tensar can provide detailed construction drawings as part of the design and supply service, and site assistance is available when needed.

The Backbone of the TensarTech® ARES System: Tensar RE Geogrid

Tensar RE geogrids are manufactured from select grades of HDPE resins that are highly oriented and resist deformation when subjected to high tensile loads for long periods of time. These geogrids carry large tensile loads applied in one direction. Their open aperture structure interlocks with natural fill materials, making them ideal for mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) applications.

The Engineered Advantage™

Tensar is the industry leader in soil reinforcement solutions. We've developed products and technologies at the forefront of the geotechnical industry for more than three decades. Our products are backed by the most thorough quality assurance practices in the industry. And we can provide full engineering and construction support, including detailing, design, site assistance, and review of stamped drawings for each of our grade separation solutions.

Independent Assessment and Approval

Highway Authorities Product Approval Scheme (HAPAS) was set up in 1995 to recognise innovative products and systems used in UK highway works. It leads to a Certificate or Report which provides highway engineers with product performance, design and installation data invaluable to the product choice and project planning processes. The TensarTech ARES System and selected Tensar uniaxial geogrids have been certified by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) and awarded HAPAS approval. The BBA certifies that Tensar geogrids and the TensarTech ARES system have been evaluated independently as fit for their intended use
