Overview

The TensarTech TR2 system has been developed for the construction of temporary earth retaining structures which are quick and straightforward to build, with face angles between 60° and vertical, as well as for use as permanent hidden thrust relief structuresFor temporary and hidden applications, aesthetics takes an acceptably lower priority than achieving lower construction costs compared to other reinforced soil systems.

System Components

The TensarTech TR2 system is comprised of steel mesh face units - lined with durable, heavy duty geotextile - securely connected to Tensar uniaxial geogrid soil reinforcement via Tensar’s highly effective bodkin connection joint. There is no requirement for an external face support or formwork, owing to the rigid steel mesh face being braced internally and held in place by the geogrid and fill material during construction.

 Single Source Solution

The components of the TensarTech TR2 system have been specifically designed to work together for optimum efficiency and performance. Steel mesh panels, geotextile liner, polymer bodkin connectors, and Tensar uniaxial geogrids work together to form a  reinforced soil wall system that meets the design needs.  Tensar’s experienced engineers, using our sophisticated TensarSoil software, can provide everything from free application suggestions to a full design and supply service.

Temporary Walls and Bridge Abutments

Projects often require the construction of temporary earth retaining structures, either to support staged embankment construction to enable traffic to flow through the works, or for load bearing bridge abutments for haul roads or temporary rail crossings. TensarTech TR2 wall systems have been proven for all types of temporary earth retaining wall applications on major projects across the globe.

No Fuss - No Risk Construction – Simple and Rapid

Contractors appreciate the constructability of TensarTech TR2 systems. The construction requires no heavy lifting equipment and construction is straightforward, and placement of the geogrid reinforcement and connection to the steel mesh face is simple and quick using polymer bodkins. The rest is straightforward earthworks. Typically, no structural foundation is necessary, mobilisation costs are minimal and staged construction is easily accommodated. Tensar can provide detailed construction drawings as part of the design and supply service, and site assistance is available when needed. No fuss, simple and quick.

Hidden Thrust Relief

The TensarTech TR2 system has been used for thrust relief of historic masonry wing walls in bridgework refurbishment, as well as for protection of Victorian-era masonry retaining wallsIn new construction, buried TensarTech TR2 structures have been constructed to relieve earth pressure on basement walls, culverts and piled bridge abutments. With a low building costand with a 120-year design life, they are ideal for these hidden permanent applications.
